Hazel Rhymes was born September 19, 1943, in Buffalo, New York to the late Lee Hardy and Anna Mae Rhymes. Shortly after her birth, the family relocated to Ozark, Alabama.
Hazel attended Southside High School in Newark, New Jersey. After high school, she worked as a Factory Worker, Housekeeper, and after a 6-week course she became a Home Health Aide. She took great pride in this role, providing exceptional care to her patients. After several years of caring for patients, she retired.
Hazel was a proud mother to Troy Rhymes and Pamela Rhymes. She was a loving grandmother to Terrell Rhymes, Simmone Rhymes, Jamal Rhymes known to her as "Poppy", Shirell Simmons, and Janae Rhymes known to her as "Baby Girl". She was also a great-grandmother affectionately known as "GG" to Kennedy, London, Josiah, and Bryson.
Hazel will be deeply missed. She was very humorous, loving, and loyal. She had a love for Bingo, music, the New York Giants, and the New York Mets. Her words "Love you more" and "I'm going to tell you what God loves and that's the truth" will forever resonate in our hearts and minds.
Hazel is preceded in death by her sister Carolyn Carrington, Gail Rhymes (Twin), brother, Philip Rhymes Sr., granddaughter Syra Rhymes, great granddaughter Nyla Simmons, and sister in love Alice Brandon.
Hazel is survived by her sister-in-law Geraldine Rhymes, cousins Joyce and Lance Brooks, a host of nephews and nieces, Home Health Aide Maggie, and Friend/Sister Rebecca Riley.
We hate to see you go but we know we will see you again.
