Heath Morris

Mitchell Heath Morris, better known to his friends as, “Tater,” passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo at the age of 44 following a sudden illness.  Heath was born on August 26, 1979 in Amory to Richard Ervin and Anita Jone Wilson Morris.  Growing up in Fulton, he was a 1997 graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School and earned an electrical technology degree from ICC.  Heath had worked at Action Industries, F.L. Crane & Sons, with his grandfather building houses and for the past 19 years for Cooper/Goodyear Tire in quality control managing the different automotive brands.  On Friday, January 13, 2011, he married the former Cassandra Tidwell and made his home in the Parham Community of Monroe County where he enjoyed working his small farm with his family.  In addition, he enjoyed vacationing with his family to the beach and the mountains, and he was an avid hunter carefully teaching his children to love the sport of hunting. Tater was a familiar face at the third week session of Maywood Christian Camp where he worked the check-in desk daily.  He loved to trade guns or just simply sit and talk about them.  He was a faithful member of Christian Chapel Church of Christ and helped wherever he could.  Always the same from Heath, he never changed for anyone.  A country boy who loved the simple things in life.  

 

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, January 4, 2023 at Cleveland-Moffett Funeral Home in Amory with Bobby Cleveland, Derrick Maranto, and Tony Brown officiating.  Burial will follow in the Pickle Cemetery in the Sipsey Community.  

 

In addition to his wife, Cassandra Morris, he is survived by his three children, Marlee and Maddox Morris of the home, and McKade Morris of Mantachie; his mother, Anita Morris Burleson (Tony) of Fulton; sisters, Lorinda McCollister (David) of Littleville, AL, Kelly Burleson Ivy (Brad) of Saltillo; brother, Mark Burleson (Mandy) of Decatur, AL; a host of nieces and nephews, special cousins, Scotty Tidwell, Nathan Dabbs, Brandon Mohler, and T.J. Justice; and a host of other nieces and nephews.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Ervin Morris; grandparents, Wilson Ervin and Eliza Irene Morris and John Woodson and Mayola Johnson Wilson.

 

Pallbearers will be Nathan Dabbs, Scotty Tidwell, Micah Laney, Brandon Mohler, T.J. Justice, Shay Russell, Kevin Clark, and Natchez Burleson.

 

Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

 

Memorials may be made to Maywood Christian Camp, Hamilton, AL or to Christian Chapel Church of Christ Youth Fund.
