Hector Amengual, a Resilient Soul who Built Community with Love and Laughter
Hector Amengual, a beloved son, brother, and father, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, in
Rochester, New York, at the age of fifty-two. Born in Puerto Rico, he embarked on a journey that touched the lives of many before finding his final resting place.
In his earlier years, Mr. Amengual resided in New Brunswick and Somerset before making South Jersey his home. He dedicated a significant portion of his life to his family's towing company, Bubie's Towing, where he honed his skills and embraced the value of hard work. However, his passions led him to explore the culinary arts, and he flourished as a chef in the restaurant industry.
With the aspiration to make a positive impact on the lives of others, Mr. Amengual became employed at Cathedral Kitchen in Camden, the largest emergency food and meal provider in Camden County. Among his colleagues, he was affectionately known as "Mr. Hollywood," a testament to his vibrant personality and ability to bring joy to those around him. Hector was a man who refused to be defined by his past mistakes; instead, he focused on personal growth and using his experiences to uplift others. His love, laughter, honesty, and exceptional culinary skills united people and built a strong sense of community.
Hector's character and unwavering dedication have left an unforgettable mark on the hearts and minds of those he encountered. He displayed resilience and determination, embodying the saying, "When life hands you lemons, make lemonade." His journey, although rocky at times, shaped him into the remarkable man he became, connecting deeply with the souls he had the privilege of touching. Unfazed by skeptics waiting for him to fall, Hector directed his time, love, and energy towards his chosen family, fostering bonds that transcended blood ties.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Hector Amengual held a strong passion for the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed spending his spare time working on cars, a reflection of his innate curiosity and love for craftsmanship.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving parents, Wilfrido and Carmen Amengual. He is also survived by his children, Mirna, Hector Jr., and Elijah Amengual. His siblings, Mirna Garcia and her husband Luis, Wilfrido Amengual and his wife Franceline, and Angie Burton and her husband Keith, will forever remember their brother's presence. Additionally, he leaves behind cherished grandchildren, Sariah, River, Alonah, Breella, Jovani, and Sebashten, as well as nieces Elena, Amarelis, Hannah, Thalia, and nephews Henry, Xavier, Ezekiel, Joshua, and KJ.
