Hedy Colello Obituary
June 1, 1943 - December 20, 2024
Hedy M. Colello, died peacefully at Connecticut Hospice on Friday, December 20, 2024. Her daughters and grandchildren were by her side, surrounding her with love. Hedy was born in a Polish displacement camp in Uganda, East Africa on June 1, 1943 and arrived in the United States in 1956 with her family. Hedy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Joseph R. Colello, Sr., her parents Michael and Josephine Leszkiewicz and a brother Marion Leszkiewicz. She is survived by her daughters Karen (Stanley) Seliga, Kristine (Kenneth) Rubano and stepsons Joseph (Kaye) Colello, Jr., Mark Colello (Donielle Camerato) and Louis (Tara) Colello. She was the proud grandmother of Allison (Austen) Suqi, Amy (Ryan) Durand, Isabelle Rubano and Michael Rubano and great-grandson Chase Durand. She was the step-grandmother of Matthew, Gabriella, Christianna and Louis Colello. She is also survived by a sister, Grace Murningham of Isle of Bute, Scotland and many nieces and nephews. Hedy enjoyed her many trips to the casino where she loved to play slot machines. She was an avid reader and also loved thrifting.
The family would like to thank the staff at Connecticut Hospice for the care and support they provided to our Mom and family. We'd also like to thank the staff and all her friends at Holiday Cedar Woods in Branford for their friendship, love and support.
Family and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Pio of Pietrelcina Parish at Our Lady of Pompeii Church Friday morning at 11:00. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Hamden. There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to CT Hospice at www.hospice.com or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
