Helen Marie Behan (nee Rooney) age 94, passed away peacefully on November 11, 2025 in Mt. Laurel New Jersey. Born in Bronx, New York to Ellen Rooney (nee Geraghty) and Michael Rooney. In her early 40's, while raising her family she attended college, first at Nassau Community College and then Molloy College for Women. She graduated Magna cum Laude in 1972 and then went on to have a long career in accounting with Nassau County government. She spent the majority of her life on Long Island and then retired with her husband to Skidaway Island in Savannah, Georgia and later moved to be closer to family to Memphis, Tennessee.

In addition to sailing with her husband for many years on Long Island and extensive traveling in retirement she enjoyed gardening and was a gifted seamstress. She will be remembered for her outgoing personality and infectious smile.

She is predeceased by her husband Joseph, son Jody, daughter Gerri Shayer along with brothers Owen and John. She is survived by daughter Ellen Behan-Heinbockel (Stephen) and son-in-law Andy Shayer. She was immensely proud of her grandsons Eric Heinbockel, Andrew Heinbockel, Alexander Shayer, Patrick Shayer and her great-granddaughter Brooke Heinbockel.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at a later date at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church in Moorestown, New Jersey with burial to follow at Cemetery of the Holy Rood in Westbury, New York.
