Mary Behan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Perry Funeral Home, Inc. on Dec. 16, 2025.
Mary Behan was born in Brooklyn, New York, on Thanksgiving Day, November 28, 1935, and entered eternal life on Monday, December 15th, 2025; 17 days after her 90th birthday. She was the loving wife of Jack, who predeceased her in 1986. Together, they had five sons, (James (Maryanne), John (Carol), Peter (Teresa), Thomas, and Richard (Deborah). She was the proud grandmother of James, Jr, (Allison), John Theresa) Peter (Meghan), Daniel (Nicole), Michael, Steven, Jaqueline, Lauren, and Richard, Jr., and great-grandmother of Brennan, Claire, Savannah, Lorelei, Peter, Jr. (PJ), Raymond James, Johnny, and Anthony. She is survived by her brother Edward Hynes, as well as many nieces and nephews. She loved time spent with her family around the Sunday dinner table. She would create enough food to feed an army, yet there was usually little left over when all had their full because "seconds" and "thirds" were the norm. Along with her husband Jack, she instilled deep Catholic traditions into their sons. The Behan Boys were always impeccably groomed and dressed for Sunday Mass as they sat in the first row of St Catherine of Genoa Church, in size order, of course! She worked very hard to achieve the best possible life for her family. Her sons did not always have the fanciest of items, however, they had what they needed. She loved to travel! In fact, one may say she was 'born to travel'. She arrived at the airport for a week's stay in Ireland and again in Rome, packing all she'd need need in an overhead bag. In her younger days, she volunteered as a committee member for the Young Americans Drum & Bugle Corps., and also helped the local Catholic War Veterans Post #1599 run their weekly bingo fund raiser. That time of her life left her with many happy memories of her interactions with people, especially the children whom she served. Her physical presence will surely be missed. The values she exemplified, and instilled in her children will live on! It is fitting that she was born on Thanksgiving Day, for she has given her family and friends so much to be thankful for.
