Helen Ruth (James) DeCan, 84, of Russellville, was born on July 24, 1938, in Havana, Arkansas, and passed away on June 25, 2023. Helen was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother who brought joy and happiness to others.
Helen was a hairdresser who owned her own business and was known for her warm, generous, and driven personality. She retired in 2013 after a long and successful career, but her impact on her clients did not end there. In her free time, Helen enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed keeping a pristine home and caring for animals. Helen always took pride in her appearance.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Don DeCan of Russellville; her daughters, Teri Ward and husband, Tim, and Tami Hollowoa and husband, Butch; five grandchildren, Derek Hollowoa and wife Brooke of Little Rock, Blake Hollowoa and wife, Katie Beth of Little Rock, Shannon Taylor and husband, Andy of Russellville, Ryan Ward and wife Paige of Dardanelle, and Carly Robinson and husband Garrett of Pontoon; great-grandchildren, Raelynn Ward, Bryar Ward, Holden Ward, Mylah Robinson, Rowen Robinson, Rhett Taylor, Riley Taylor, Preston Hollowoa and one on the way, Maelee Robinson; and sister, Imogene Lowery.
Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Ruth Chappell; brothers, Herman, Hoyt, and J. W. Chappell; and sisters, Jonnie Tapp, Geraldine Murdock, Marie Brasher, and Lillian Mounts.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June 29, 2023, at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville. Rev. Tony Reynolds will officiate. Burial will be at Moore's Chapel Cemetery in Waveland following the service. Pallbearers are Derek and Blake Hollowoa, Ryan Ward, Shannon and Andy Taylor, Carly and Garrett Robinson.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, June 29, 2023, at Humphrey Chapel. Memorials can be made to the Russellville Animal Shelter. Arrangements are under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.
