Helen Kathryn Dech

Helen Kathryn Dech, 99, passed away on June 30, 2025. She was born June 20, 1926 to the late Adam and Elizabeth Heiser.
She was a 1944 graduate of James Ford Rhodes High School and became a secretary for Columbia area schools, for over 30 years. She married Jacob Dech on April 9, 1949 and together the two shared 63 wonderful years together until his passing in 2012.
Helen is survived by children, Cliff (Jo) Dech, Heidi (Mark) Cox, and Nancy (Rick) Gibson; grandchildren, Joelle (Jason), Patrick (Sarah), Zachary (Natalie), Heather (Joe), Brian (Paige), Ryan (Katie), Stephanie (Luke) and Leah (Mike); and great-grandchildren, Gemma, Blaise, Lachlan, Briar, Sebastian, Juliette, Joey, Jacob, Hannah, Ethan, Owen, Ellie, Tyler, Miles, Trace, Mason, Grayson, Peyton, Addison, and Reagan. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jacob, and her sister, Betty.
Helen was an active member of Eastern Star Ellbrook Chapter for 78 years. Helen and Jacob were both members of the German American Culture Center in Olmsted Falls for numerous years. While members, they were also apart of Senior Dancers group, traveling all over to perform including the US, Canada, Germany, and Austria. They were also active in the Armed Guard branch of the Navy for several years. She was a member of Columbia United Methodist Church and attended Greentown United Methodist.
The family would like to extend a thank you to Gables of Uniontown and Traditions Hospice for their care and support during the past few months and years of Helens life.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks donations be made to Columbia United Methodist Church or Greentown United Methodist.
A visitation to honor Helen will be held July 7, from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm with a service to start immediately at 12:00 pm at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, 44070.
