Helen Lydia Detling

Helen Lydia Detling, 95, of Barnesville, Ohio passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, at Emerald Pointe Nursing & Rehabilitation. She was born on September 30, 1929, in Barnesville, Ohio to the late Henry Carl and Burdella (McConnell) Lewis.
Helen was a 1947 graduate of Barnesville High School. She retired from the State of Ohio Bureau of Employment Services. She and her husband, Hollie spent their retirement with their children, traveling, gardening, and building a home. She enjoyed avidly walking the streets of Barnesville. She worked for several employers and supported many organizations, including delivering Meals on Wheels and volunteering at the Barnesville Hospital. Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church and lifelong member of the Junior Women's Club. Helen and Hollie were Barnesville Co-Citizens of the year for 2002. Helen was such a giving person, she was a friend and neighbor to everyone.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Hollie William Detling on June 21, 2013; brothers, Harvey E. (Billie Jean) Lewis and John DeWitt Lewis; sisters, Dorothy Lewis and Betty Buscaglia; brother-in-law, John (Kathryn) Detling; and sister-in-law, Jean (Roger) Davis.
Helen is survived by her children, Lou Ann (Pat) Swallie, Marla Kent, William (Tracy) Detling; grandchildren, Amber (Ryan) Hardie, Adam (Autumn) Swallie, Arick Swallie, Evan (Megan) Kent, Ryan Kent, Joshua (Cayte) Detling, Paul (Lauren) Detling, Joseph Detling, Linnea Detling, Elizabeth Detling; great-grandchildren, Madison Hardie, Cameron Detling and Coleton Detling; brother, Carl (Bonnie) Lewis; sister-in-law, Gwen Lewis; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025 from 4-7pm at Campbell-Plumly-Milburn Funeral Home, 319 North Chestnut Street, Barnesville, Ohio. The funeral service will be on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 10:00am with Pastor Van Fisher officiating. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family at Holly Memorial Gardens in Colerain, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 123 West Church Street, Barnesville, Ohio.
