Helen Elizabeth Edwards, 98, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 20, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on May 29, 1927, in Louisville, Kentucky, to James and Donnie Whitworth, Helen lived a full and beautiful life defined by deep faith, strong family bonds, and a generous heart.
Helen was a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend. Though she spent time working at BellSouth and Stewart’s department store, her most treasured role was that of a homemaker. She found joy and purpose in caring for her family, creating a warm and welcoming home where love was always abundant.
A faithful member of her church, Helen gave her time and energy to children's ministries and actively participated in the church's women’s organization. Her faith was a guiding light throughout her life, reflected in her kindness, patience, and service to others.
Helen cherished the simple pleasures in life—sharing a meal with family, playing games around the kitchen table, bowling with her sisters, and perfecting her needlepoint with care and creativity. She also found great joy in travel, with favorite memories made in Hawaii and Branson, Missouri.
Helen’s legacy is one of love, warmth, and quiet strength. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those she touched.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, who are grateful for the many years they were blessed to share with her.
Helen is preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, William “Bill” Edwards; her parents, James Whitworth and Donnie Priest Whitworth; brother, James David Whitworth; and 2 sisters, Elsie Bryant (Bob) and Margaret Brothers (Dallas).
Left to cherish her memory, Helen is survived by 2 children, Charles Edwards (Amy) and Linda Alster (Robin); granddaughter, Abby Alster; 2 siblings, Richard Whitworth (Linda) and Pat Rice (Kevil); and several nieces and nephews.
