Helen Faye Johnson Adkins was born in Hueytown, Alabama on July 10, 1942. Helen passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 3, 2025 at age 83, surrounded by family.
Helen was a native of Hueytown, Alabama where she met and married Wayne Adkins in 1966. They moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana shortly afterwards where they spent 15 memorable years and made many life-long friendships. In 1981 they moved back to Birmingham, Alabama to be close to family. In the late 90's they moved to Lay Lake – and enjoyed the lake life and entertaining family and friends. They were also very involved with their church family at the First Baptist Church in Columbiana.
Helen and Wayne together were admired and respected by friends. Helen was described by close friends as a spirited, outgoing, classy gal - and together they were a fun-loving couple who enjoyed ballroom dancing, Nascar racing and Alabama football. Wayne passed away in 2016 after 49 years of marriage, and shortly afterwards Helen began her battle with Alzheimer's disease.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate and dedicated individuals who provided care to Helen in her home during her final years. A special thanks goes to Clara Moorer (5.5 years), Alena Carroll (5 years) and Tiffany Ward (1 year).
Preceding her in joining her lord and savor were husband Wayne Connor Adkins, parents Alvin Edward and Elmus Turner Johnson, sister Joann Costa and brother Jerry Lynn Johnson. Helen is survived by her daughter, Angel Adkins Houston (Greg); grandsons Chad Houston (Sonia) and Taylor Houston (Katy); nieces Beverly Neimzak (Michael), Shari Bledsoe (David), and Sammie Jo Stamps; nephews Scott Adkins (Casi) and Ty Adkins (Beth); and great grand-children Theodore Holmes Houston and Rowan Quinn Houston.
Family will receive friends for a Visitation on Friday, August 8, from 9:30 – 10:40 at Valhalla Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow at 11:00.
