Helen B. Hackney, 93, of Abilene, Texas, passed away on December 22, 2025, in Kerrville, Texas. She was born in Abilene, Texas to Carlos Ewing and Pearl McCoy Ewing on August 21, 1932.

Helen attended and graduated from Abilene High School and married Roger Gene Hackney on November 17, 1950. She was a homemaker most of her life devoting that time to her husband and her two daughters but also worked part-time at the Bible Book Store and Bowie Elementary School in Abilene, Texas. She attended Trinity Baptist Church in Abilene and was very involved in church activities, teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School; helped with teen ministry, and gave her time to any activity in the church that needed her help. She moved to Kerrville in 2015 after the death of her husband.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Roger Gene Hackney; her father, Carlos Ewing; her mother, Pearl Cotton; her brothers, Elzie Ewing, Archie Ewing, Riley Ewing; and her sister, Shirley Roberson.
She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Hackney of Center Point, Texas, Deborah Benge and her husband Brad of Flynn, Texas; three grandchildren, Jacob McLain of Sisterdale, Texas, Jared Benge of Monahans, Texas, and Clay Benge of Odessa, Texas; three great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; one sister, Fern Baird of Houston, Texas; and one brother, Carrol Ewing of Coleman, Texas.

Visitation will be Sunday, December 28, 2025, 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Grimes Funeral Chapels in Kerrville, Texas. Burial will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the charity of your choice may be given.

The Helen Hackney family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living, Dr. Young and Peterson Hospice all of Kerrville, Texas for their excellent care in helping Helen with the transition to go be with her Lord and those loved ones that have passed before her.
