In Loving Memory of Alfred Charles Hackney

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mr. Alfred (Fred) Charles Hackney, age 77, of Prunedale, California, who passed away peacefully at his residence on Thursday morning, November 6, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family and cats. He was born on December 16, 1947, in Carmel, California.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Burnice and Terezina Hackney. He is survived by his loving wife, Cordella (Dell) Hackney; his sons, Daniel Babshoff (wife Shannon, grandchildren Presley, Massey, Waylon) and David Gray Hackney; his brothers, Robert Hackney (wife Patty) and John Hackney; and his nephew, Cody Williams. Fred also leaves behind many extended family members, friends, and loved ones who will miss him dearly.

Fred's life was marked by service, dedication, and a deep love for family and community. After graduating from high school, Fred served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. In his final year of service, he worked as a switchboard operator, before transitioning to a career that would shape the course of his life.

Fred's passion for agriculture began when he co-founded Kleen Globe Inc., a spray company based in Castroville, California. As the Director of Field Operations, Fred became a trusted figure in the local farming community, providing essential services to growers throughout the region. Known for his creativity and resourcefulness, Fred often regaled stories of his time in the fields, where his quick thinking and problem-solving skills helped him overcome the challenges of working with spray trucks and tractors. Fred's tenure at Kleen Globe made him the longest-serving employee in the company's history, and he was respected by all who worked with him.

In addition to his work at Kleen Globe, Fred was deeply involved in the family's ranches in San Lucas and Castroville, especially the Strobel Ranch. He had a profound connection to the land and loved spending time at the ranches, offering his knowledge and expertise to help the growers succeed. Fred's passion for farming was matched only by his respect for the generations of families who helped build the ranches into what they are today.

Fred was also known for his unique bond with his cats, earning him the affectionate nickname "The Cat Man." His love for his feline companions was evident to all who knew him, and he took great comfort in their presence.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Mission Mortuary & Memorial Park, located at 1915 Ord Grove Ave, Seaside, California. A burial will follow the service.

Fred's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy of service, dedication, and kindness will not be forgotten.
