Joseph Morris Hackney, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Eads, TN on March 6th, 2026. He was born in Gallatin, TN to the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph G. Hackney.
Joe lived a life of service to his family, community, and nation serving in the U.S. Navy and Coast Guard as well as 32 years in the Memphis Police Department. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all. His presence brought comfort and joy to all he met, friends and strangers alike.
He took great joy playing on his tractor, working in the garage, and tinkering with his cars. Joe could often be found outside mowing his lawn, always ready to pause and wave to neighbors passing by. He enjoyed taking road trips for family vacations, street rod competitions, and familiar fishing holes. Those trips were some of his favorite adventures and most peaceful moments.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan; his sons, Joe and Matthew; his daughter, Blair; his daughter in law, Bella; and his son-in-law, Travis. Joe was a proud grandfather to Micaela, Taylor, Olivia, and Ella, all of whom brought him great joy.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sister, Gail Johnson and brother-in- law, Sammy.
Joe's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the love, humor and friendship he gave throughout his life.
In Lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, USO or American Legion.
