Helen Hanzel

Helen Mary Hanzel, 85 of Boise Idaho passed peacefully on July 20, 2025. Helen was born the daughter of Clifford and Mildred Hinkley, on March 30, 1940, in Lewiston, Idaho. Helen's mother was later remarried to Glenn Hall, and Helen along with her brother John Hall grew up in Lewiston. Helen was a proud member of Job's Daughter's and graduated from Lewiston High School. She pursued her higher education at the University of Idaho, where she met her future husband John Hanzel Sr. The couple married, and moved to Burley Idaho, where they raised two son's, John Jr, and Charles. Throughout her life Helen was guided by her passion for animals. Helen was instrumental in fund raising for the construction of the Burley Animal Shelter, leading to her life-time support of the Humane Society. Helen loved hiking with friends in the Oakley Basin, then in later years became a collector of antiques and all things that struck her fancy. Helen was preceded in death by her husband John Hanzel, and brother John Hall. She is survived by her two sons, John Hanzel Jr.( Rhonda) of Boise, and Charles Hanzel of Idaho City; granddaughters Kayla Hanzel of Boise, and Alexis Wibberg (Nate) of Melba; great granddaughter Emma and great grandson Elijah. Helen will be laid to rest at the Cloverdale Cemetery with her beloved dogs, Poopster, Stollie, Nipper, Larry, Dexter, and Sparky.
