FLORENCE HANZEL

Florence Mae Yagich George Hanzel, age 94, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at Spring Park Assisted Living in Travelers Rest, South Carolina.

Florence was born on May 7, 1931, in Cleveland, Ohio and was the daughter of the late John and Helen Wolf Yagich. She was a retired secretary for Fairmont East High School in Kettering, Ohio. Florence had a great passion for quilting, baking, and volunteering her time in the church. She dearly loved her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and was known for keeping her family closely connected throughout her 94 years.

She is survived by her sons, Karl David George (Nancy) of Dayton, Ohio, and Kevin Bruce George (Debbie) of Travelers Rest, South Carolina; a step-son, Chris Hanzel (Kathy) of Akron, Ohio; six grandchildren - Todd, Angie, Brian, Kelly, Olivia, Tony; two step-grandchildren - Clayton, Jacob; numerous great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Sandra Bailey.

In addition to her parents, Florence was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Earl George; her second husband, Robert J. Hanzel; and her brother, James Yagich.

A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday, March 6th, 2026, at 11:00 am at Saint Mark United Methodist Church in Seneca, SC. A private inurnment will follow at Heritage Memorial Park. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday, March 6th, 2026 from 10:00 am – 10:45 am, at the church.
