Helen was born in Grand Forks, on April 4, 1929, to Emil and Agnes (Gust) Kozel. She was raised on the family farm in the Red River Valley where she learned a strong work ethic. Helen graduated from East Grand Forks Senior High in 1947. After high school, she worked as a telephone operator, handling phone calls where she was known as "The Voice With a Smile." Helen was united in marriage to Les Haug in East Grand Forks, MN. Together they made their home in Grand Forks and were blessed with seven children. She was a loving and caring daycare provider for over 40 years.
Helen's pride and joy was her family. She is survived by her children, Claudia (Stefen) Honl, Grand Forks, Coral (Phillip) Blanchard, Waynesboro, GA, Forrest (Kimberly) Haug, Glyndon, MN, Diana (Larry) Hayes, Buxton, ND, Darby (Kevan) Rabat, Middletown, MD, Holly Boulware, Brookings, SD and Natalie (Karl) Kostelic, Brighton, CO; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John, Emil Jr., Robert, Ted and George Kozel; sisters, Agnes Kobetsky, Ann Lind and Mary Kozel; and son-in-law, Jeffrey Boulware.
MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL: 2:00 PM on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1018 18th Ave S, Grand Forks, ND 58201. Funeral Mass will be Livestreamed on Holy Family Catholic Church's Facebook page at: www.facebook.com/holyfamilygf/
VISITATION: 1:00-2:00 PM on Wednesday at the church.
