Helen Freeman Hessom, age 89, of Nederland, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026. Born on June 4, 1936, in Healdton, Oklahoma, she lived a full life characterized by devotion to family, faith, and community service.
Helen dedicated her professional life as a secretary at Westinghouse Electric in Beaumont, where she was known for her diligence and commitment to her work. Her career was but one facet of her vibrant personality. Helen will be remembered for her unwavering faith and as a good and faithful servant of the Lord.
Those who had the pleasure of knowing Helen cherished her joyful nature. She had a profound love for music, finding joy in the melodies of Elvis and Bruno Mars. Dancing was another of her passions, where she found delight in expressing herself through rhythm and movement. In addition to music, Helen had a zest for life that included an avid interest in all sports, particularly supporting Lamar University and the Oklahoma Sooners. She also enjoyed collecting baby dolls, a reflection of her nurturing spirit.
Helen's dedication extended beyond her interests; she was known for her kindness and generosity. One of her proudest accomplishments was her willingness to offer help to anyone in need. Her caring heart touched countless lives, and her legacy of compassion will live on through the many she inspired.
In her passing, she leaves behind her cherished daughters, Marcia Solis and her husband, Robert of Nederland, Pam Haley of Dallas, and Rhonda Melancon of Nederland. She was the devoted grandmother of Bobby Solis, Kim Heinz, Michael Haley, Spencer Long, Jesse Askew, Brooke Gresham, Sonnie Brewer, and Macey Sullivan, and a proud great-grandmother to seventeen great-grandchildren. Helen is also survived by her brother, Vincent Freeman of Healdton, Oklahoma.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Hessom, and her dear daughter, Donna Sullivan. She was also welcomed into eternity by her parents, William and Lois Freeman, her brother, Billy Freeman, and her sister, Wilma McFatridge.
Helen Freeman Hessom’s life was a testament to love, service, and faith. She will be profoundly missed by her family and friends, who are left to carry on her legacy of kindness and devotion.
A graveside service will be held in her honor on March 12, 2026, at Mount Olive Cemetery in Healdton, Oklahoma, starting at 12:00 PM. She will be laid to rest in the place where her journey began, surrounded by those who loved her dearly.
