Helen Jackson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sacred Funeral Home on Feb. 3, 2026.
Helen Marie Jackson was born on December 17, 1958, to the parents of J.C. Zackery Jr. of Dallas, Texas and Mae Lee Steele of Waldo, Arkansas. Helen moved to Dallas, Texas to live with her dad, stepmom, and siblings when she was a child. Helen attended schools at Harry Stone Elementary, Sarah Zumwalt Junior High, and South Oak Cliff High School, where she earned her diploma. Helen accepted Christ her Lord and Saviour at an early age and attended the Church of Christ. Helen grew up on Ivy Lane in Dallas, Texas, where there was a village formed that brought all the neighborhood kids together.

Helen gave birth to her first-born child Harold Griffin Jr. on August 7, 1979. On August 18, 1990, Helen married Rickey Jackson Sr., and to this union Rickey Jackson Jr. was born. Helen and Rickey were able to enjoy their baby boy for 7 years before the Lord called him home due to sickness.

Helen worked for Frozen Food Express (FFE Transportation Services, INC.) for over 16 years as a Rate Clerk and Data Entry Clerk. More importantly, Helen dedicated her life to caring for her husband and two sons through the trials and tribulations of Sickle Anemia.

In Helen's later years, she became a member of the Church of Christ on Pemberton Hill Road under the leadership of Pastor J.E. Fontaine Sr. and First Lady Mary Fontiane. Helen ministered through ushering, singing, and providing the word. Helen served the Lord, the members, and her church faithfully until her health wouldn't allow her to serve in the physical form anymore. But she continued to keep her faith and trust in her pastor and church. You could hear Helen a mile away with her tiny but mighty voice and her laugh. She loved spreading the word to others and was a natural-born caregiver who took care of others as if they were her family. Helen battled with sickness and ailments for many years, but she never lost her faith.

Helen was preceded in death by her son, Rickey Jackson Jr; her father & stepmom J.C. & Alfreda Zackery Jr; sisters, Barbara, Jaunita, Wanda, & Beverly Zackery, Brenda Mayes, Almeter Lee, & Annette Steele; brothers, Willie Steele Sr. & Kenneth Zackery. Helen leaves to cherish her mom, Mae Lee Steele; husband of 35 years, Rickey Jackson Sr; son Harold Griffin (Mahogany); stepdaughters, Commanechea Franklin, & Nina Anderson (Anthony); sisters, Annette Sample, Mae Ruth Turner, Ruthie Good (Justin); brothers, Calvin Smith (Lorita), James Smith (April), & Willie Smith (Tina); stepsister, Sharonne' Barclay; grandchildren Jaquante (Ciara), Jaqualen, Brandon, Tre'Veon, Kev'Veon, Anthony, Isaiah, Tranell, Ryan, Ryion. Great-grandchildren, Josiah, Tre'Veon, Ja'Kari, La'Harmony, & Talani; and a host of family & friends.
