Helen Johnstone Obituary

Published by Lesko Funeral Home, Preplanning, and Cremation Services - Fairfield on Feb. 5, 2017.
Helen D. Johnstone, age 90, of Fairfield, loving wife to the late Thomas (Tim) Johnstone, entered into eternal life on Sunday February 5, 2017 at Cambridge Manor with her loving family by her side. Helen was the first baby to be born in Stamford, CT in 1927, to Earl and Marion Meath Donegan. She was raised in Stamford with her four siblings. Growing up, Helen and her family spent every summer in their cottage on Fairfield Beach. She was part of the Stamford High School's 1945 graduating class. After her graduation, Helen went on to continue her education at Katherine Gibbs and later worked as a secretary on Park Avenue in New York City. During that time, she met her beloved husband, Tim, and relocated to Fairfield to raise their family in 1955. A kind, caring and fun soul who turned her house into a home and opened it up to all, Helen's memory will be embraced by her children, grandchildren, brother, sister, and many friends and extended family. Helen always enjoyed entertaining family and friends in their home on Lake Hills. Helen also enjoyed her winter vacations in Siesta Key, Florida. After raising her family, Helen worked part time for the Fairfield Board of Ed and for the St. Pius X Rectory in Fairfield. She was also a member of many organizations throughout Fairfield including the Fairfield New Comers Club, Fayerweather Yacht Club, Women's Auxiliary, American Gaelic Club, and The Lake Hill's Association. A loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Thomas (Tim), and son, Kenneth. Helen will be remembered by her son, Robert Johnstone, of Fairfield and daughter, Kelly Johnstone Davis, and her husband, Warren, of Fairfield; and grandchildren, Stacey Henry, of Torrington, Chris Johnstone, of Oxford, and Warren Davis, of Fairfield; also her brother, Earl Donegan Jr, of Virginia Beach, and her sister, Natalie Vellturo, and her husband John, of Fairfield; also four great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may greet her family on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 4-8 PM with a 7:00 PM Prayer Service in the Lesko & Polke Funeral Home, 1209 Post Road, in Fairfield Center. Entombment will be held privately at Oak Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, you may make contributions to the Davis Family Education Fund, 2490 Black Rock Turnpike P.O.#456 Fairfield, CT 06825 For travel directions, or to sign her online register, please visit www.LeskoPolkeFuneralHome.com

Big hugs and love to you, Kelly, and condolences to you and your family. Gone From My Sight by Henry Van Dyke I am standing upon the seashore. A ship, at my side, spreads her white sails to the moving breeze and starts for the blue ocean. She is an object of beauty and strength. I stand and watch her until, at length, she hangs like a speck of white cloud just where the sea and sky come to mingle with each other. Then, someone at my side says, "There, she is gone." Gone where? Gone from my sight. That is all. She is just as large in mast, hull and spar as she was when she left my side. And, she is just as able to bear her load of living freight to her destined port. Her diminished size is in me -- not in her. And, just at the moment when someone says, "There, she is gone," there are other eyes watching her coming, and other voices ready to take up the glad shout, "Here she comes!"
