Helen Margaret Smith Lawrence passed from this world into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, in Carthage, MS. She was 91 years old. The family will receive friends and extended family for visitation from 10:00-11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Lakeshore Church in Byram, MS. The funeral service will begin at 11:00 with burial to follow at Sinai Cemetery in Florence, MS.
Helen was born on March 27, 1934, to L.W. Smith and Pauline Boteler Smith in Florence, MS. She was raised on her family farm, that she loved dearly, and was still living there. She was married to the “Love of Her Life”, Bo, for 57 years. Their marriage was how a marriage was supposed to be, and she loved him very much. Helen was a caregiver to her parents, her mother-in-law and her father-in-law. She was an excellent cook. Her biggest enjoyments were her flowers, her yard and the hummingbirds. Above all, she loved, LOVED her family. Helen was a proud and true matriarch. You knew if you were fortunate enough to be called “Sweet Baby” or to be one of her sweet babies. Helen loved her coffee. 2:00 p.m. coffee time was a staple. She was a true Southern Lady. When her day started, she punched the coffee pot on, fixed her hair, made sure her nails were done, and was ready to take on the day, both inside and out. Helen will truly be missed.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Pauline and Lemual Smith; her husband, Allen (Bo) Lawrence, Sr.; sisters, Jeanette Bethany (Joe) and Nancy Lanus; and sister-in-law, Donna Smith. She is survived by her children, Beau Lawrence (Ava) of Florence, and Vickie Bryan (Steve) of Carthage; brother, Curtis Smith of Florence; grandchildren, Larron Bryan (Regina), Jamie LaPeze, Brooke Spears (Jonathan), and Kaitie Newman (Zach); great grandchildren, Ethan, Parker, Carter, Sophia, Maddox, Walker, and Emilia; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers: Larron Bryan, Jamie LaPeze, Zach Newman, Jonathan Spears, Maddox Bryan, and Carter Seal. Honorary Pallbearers: Walker Spears and Ronnie Watson.
The family would like to extent a special thank you to the Beehive of Carthage and the precious ladies who cared for her these last 3 years, as well as Quality Hospice and Accent Care.
