Helen Dorothy Miels, 90, of Cumberland died Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at her home in the company of her loving family. She was born February 18, 1934 in Eaton, Colorado to the Rev. Dr. Arthur and Esther (Andorf) Braun, and was baptized on March 11, 1934. She was confirmed into her faith on May 17, 1947, at Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Paul, MN. After high school, Helen attended and graduated from Hamline School of Nursing in 1954, and worked as a Registered Nurse for 37 years at Ancker, Ramsey and Regions Hospitals.
She was married at Calvary on June 2, 1956, to Earl Miels. Helen was very involved in her churches, at Calvary and St. Peter in St. Paul, and St. Paul in Cumberland; singing with the choir, teaching Sunday School, and volunteering for the Laborers for Christ, Luther League and Bible Camp. When not busy at work or with volunteering, Helen enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, quilting, fishing, reading, and playing games with grandchildren.
She is survived by five children: Eugene (Kimberly) Miels of Neenah, Elizabeth (Joseph) Deuhs of Minnetonka, MN, Fern Peterson of Minneapolis, MN, Susan (William) Allard of Roseville, MN, John (Amy) Miels of Cumberland; 15 grandchildren: 24 great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Gail) Braun of King George, VA; sister-in-law Nancy Braun.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Earl; and siblings: Arthur and Elizabeth.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 15, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Cumberland with Pastor John Miels officiating. Burial will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date. Pallbearers are Jake, Johnathan and Jed Miels, Ethan Karschnik, Mark Allard, Jacob Yernberg, Carlos Balderas, and Michael Deuhs. Visitation will be 9:30 -11:00 Monday at the church.
