Obituary published on Legacy.com by Doherty Funeral Homes, Inc. - Pike Creek on Jan. 13, 2023.
Helen Minker (nee Lewicki) was born in
Wilmington, Delaware to Frank and Josephine Lewicki, as the seventh of their nine children. She transitioned from this life to her new heavenly home to be with her Savior Jesus on Sunday, January 8, 2023.
She is survived by her sons, John (Claudia) and Gary (Linda); her sister, Bernice Bonkowski; her sister-in-law, Delores (Fuller) Lewicki; seven grandchildren, Craig, Matthew (Angela Marcozzi), Brian, Derek (Brooke), Justin (Evelyn Sumer), Andrew Bozarth (Katja) and Victoria (Clyne); in addition to fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her father, Frank (Franciszek) Lewicki in 1960 and her mother, Josephine (nee Zambrzycki) in 1982, and later by her husband of 56 years, John B. "Buck" Minker Jr. in 2006. In addition, she was predeceased by their twin sons who died at birth in 1949, by five brothers - Joseph (1961), Henry (1987), Stanley (2001), John "Corky" (2003), and Frank (2008); by two sisters - Stella Formus (2008) and Irene Buzin (2016); and many of her sisters-in-law, all of her brothers-in-law as well as a niece, a nephew and two great nephews.
Helen attended St. Hedwig's School in
Wilmington, Delaware. She worked at Barczewski's Market, for Davis Cleaning and later for Shop Rite in Stanton in the deli department. She lived most of her adult life in the vicinity of
Newport, Delaware.
Helen was known by those who knew and loved her as a good cook and excellent housekeeper. Family and friends especially enjoyed the kruschicki pastries she would make as well as her lasagna, stuffed peppers and galumpkis. She also had a green thumb - no matter what she did to her garden plants, they always survived and thrived! During her life, Helen had a number of pets, the last of which was her Sheltie, Ginger. Although Helen was well-known for being frugal, she also was very generous to her family.
Helen enjoyed traveling with her husband, family and friends to places in the United States and beyond, especially on bus trips. Some of the places they traveled were Branson, the Thousand Islands, Williamsburg, Florida, St. Louis, Las Vegas and Bermuda. Helen also enjoyed playing cards, especially canasta with her husband and special friends, Jimmy and Margaret Lister.
Helen enjoyed the beach: in the early years at White Crystal Beach Maryland, Wildwood New Jersey and later at Bayshore Mobile Home Park in
Ocean View, Delaware. Many fond family memories were made on those getaways!
Special thanks to the staff at Rockland Place Pathways Program who cared for Helen with respect, love, care and dignity at the end of her life.
