Helen Ferne "Ferne" Simpson

Helen "Ferne" Simpson, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at her home in Ontario, Oregon, on August 29, 2025, at the age of 92. She was born on August 14, 1933, in Axtell, Kansas, and was the cherished daughter of Joe and Helen Stoneman.

Ferne was the beloved wife of Walter A. "Bud" Simpson, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a family that included their children, Judy Presnell and Joe Simpson, and their respective spouses, Duane "Perk" Presnell and Dawn Simpson. Ferne was immensely proud of her family, which extended to numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom she adored and who brought her immense joy.

Ferne attended Ontario High School in Ontario, Oregon, where she forged lifelong friendships that would enrich her life. Her career spanned many years as a sales associate in the fabric department at the Merc Department Store in Ontario, where her friendly demeanor made her a favorite among customers. Later, as an Avon Lady, she flourished and was proud to be a member of the Avon President's Club for decades, showcasing her commitment and dedication.

In her leisure time, Ferne found joy in crocheting, knitting, quilt-making, and sewing. These crafts were not only hobbies but also expressions of her nurturing spirit, allowing her to create special gifts for her loved ones. Above all, Ferne treasured the time spent with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories that they will carry with them always.

A graveside service to celebrate Ferne's remarkable life will be held at Riverside Cemetery in Payette, Idaho, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in her memory to the Ontario Senior Center or Sunrise Christian Church in Ontario, Oregon.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Horizon Hospice for the compassionate care they provided during Ferne's final days. As we remember Ferne, we honor her for all the good that she brought to the world. As beautifully stated in Proverbs 31:31, "Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."

She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
