Helen Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 21, 2025.
Helen E. Smith

(nee Winkler)

Helen was reunited with her beloved husband, John "Bud" Smith, Jr., on October 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family at the age of 83.

Loving mother of John III (Christine) Smith, Robin (the late Joseph) Kucan, and Lisa (Randy) Iding. Dear grandma of John Smith IV, Alexandra Smith, Arianna Smith, Samantha Jo Kucan, Tanner Joseph Kucan, Sarah (Michael) Feirstein, Adam Iding, Rebeckah (Josh Engelland) Iding, David (Koda) Iding, and Peter Iding. Proud great-grandma of Abigail, Benjamin, Riley, Aya, Henry, Kisa, and Silas. Dear sister of Edwin Jr. (Joyce) Winkler, Randy (Peggy) Winkler, Rick (Sandy) Winkler, Judy (the late Don) Wagner, Bonnie (Ken) Juza, and Debbie (Bryon) Huffman. Helen will also be remembered by her nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Helen was preceded in death sisters, Dorothy (the late Hoyt) Blanchard, Shirley Lusk, and Mary Winkler and her brothers, Robert (Barb) Winkler, and Gene (Ellen) Winkler.

A woman of deep faith, Helen was a cherished member of her church community, where she found strength and solace. Her devotion extended beyond the church walls as she lovingly cared for her husband, Bud, for many years. Helen's commitment to family was evident in every aspect of her life, from her role as a caring mother to the joyous moments spent with her siblings.

In her younger years, Helen enjoyed the simple pleasures, such as enjoying drive-in movies with her family, the taste of popcorn, Reese's, and Chuckles candy. Those memories, inspired with laughter and love, are treasures that her family will hold dear.

Helen's legacy is marked by her unwavering kindness and loving nature. She was a woman whose very presence could uplift and whose hands were never too full to help or comfort others.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Helen's doctors, David Blake, MD, and Joseph Vogelgesang, DO, for their compassionate care throughout the years. Their dedication to Helen's well-being allowed her to navigate her health journey with dignity and grace.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, at NAIN EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1665 S. 57th St., Milwaukee, from 5-8 PM, with a Service at 7 PM.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Nain Evangelical Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
