Helen "Louise" Smith of West Pittston, Pa, passed away peacefully on April 10th, 2025 at Wesley Village Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family after a long and fulfilling life.

Louise was born November 15th, 1930 in West Pittston, Pa to Henry J. Krause and Mary Nealon Krause. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years John A. Smith Jr., infant son Joseph, siblings Robert T. Krause and Margaret "Peggy" Krause Rockefeller.

Louise dedicated her life to helping others through her many roles in serving the community including: President of the West Pittston Women's Club, Board of Directors of the West Pittston Library, Chairperson of Friends of the West Pittston Library, member of the Back Mountain Bloomers, Girl Scout Troop Leader, and Board of Director & Volunteer Coordinator for Meals on Wheels of Greater Pittston.

Louise was known for her vibrant personality as evidenced by her ever changing millinery, dried & pressed flower artistry, all things gardening, yachting, love of football, and a good parade.

Louise is survived by her children John A. Smith III (Sherry), Jill Ann Space (Mark), Jamey Smith (Sandy) and daughter in law Evelyn Sgarlat Smith. Grandchildren Lindsey Valentine (Alex), Alexis Smith (Justin), Courtney Smith, Matthew Smith (Jennifer), Justin Smith (Kristen), Kyle Smith (Krista), Dillon Smith (Samantha), and Taylor Barefoot (Brady). Great grandchildren Rowen Smith, Regan Smith, Kathryn Valentine, Madison Smith, Nicholas Space, Liam Valentine, Bristol Smith, Daniel Space, Charley Rose Smith, and Hudson Smith.

Family and friends are invited from 5 to 8 PM on Monday, April 14th at Hugh B. Hughes Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave, Forty Fort.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 15th at Immaculate Conception Church, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston, with Monsignor John Sepma, officiating. Interment will be held at Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery, Plains.

Monetary donations in remembrance of Louise may be made to Meals on Wheels of Greater Pittston.
