Helen attended and graduated from LeRoy High School in 1940. She always reminisced about walking three miles to school every day with her siblings. After graduation, she attended classes to obtain her Red Cross Nursing Certificate while working full-time at Taylor Instrument Company in Rochester, NY. During this time, she met the love of her life, Paul H. Smith. They got married on April 27, 1946, after her husband returned from the war. In the early 1950s, they started their own refrigeration company. They would go on to run a successful business for the next 40 years.

Helen was a 60-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star and past Worthy Matron. She and her husband were members of the Oak Orchard Yacht Club for many years. They enjoyed sailing and traveling, including two trips to Europe.

She became a resident of the Manor House in 2018 where she developed many friendships.

Services for Helen will be private and at the convenience of her family with burial in West Middlebury Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to an animal rescue of your choice in loving memory of Helen A. Smith. The family would like to thank the staff of United Memorial Medical Center, the LeRoy Village Green Nursing and Rehab Center and the Manor House Senior Living.
