Helen Spring Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Frary Funeral Home & Cremation Services - Ogdensburg on Feb. 10, 2026.
OGDENSBURG – Helen Margaret Spring, 63, of Potsdam, NY, unexpectedly passed away on February 7, 2026, at her favorite place, the home of her sister, in Chase Mills.

Arrangements have been entrusted under the care and guidance of Frary Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Ogdensburg.

There will be no funeral services held for Helen to respect her final wishes. A celebration of life is being planned and the family will post the details regarding that on social media as soon as they are settled.

Helen was born in Ogdensburg, NY, to William and Mary (Stark) Hess on September 9, 1962. She attended Ogdensburg Free Academy and went on to work for her entire life both in bartending and food service in Ogdensburg and for 25 years in Florida until she became disabled and returned to the North Country.

Helen is survived by her favorite sister and constant companion, Mary (Kevin) Hawkins, of Chase Mills, NY, her next favorite sister Ann (William) Moulton of Melbourne, FL, a brother William (Cindy) Hess of Arcadia, FL and a brother Timothy (Christine) Hess of Tampa, FL; and several cherished nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by her loved ones.

Helen is predeceased by her husband, Gregory Spring, in 2016; her parents, William and Mary Hess; her sister and brother-in-law, Katherine and William Lenhart; and her brothers, Howard Hess and Thomas Hess, Sr.

Helen was the kindest, most caring, spirited woman. She was the kind of person that would give up everything she had if it meant those she loved were happy. She left her mark on the world with her humor and unconventional love. Helen was the center of attention wherever she was without trying to be. She lit up every room with her inappropriate jokes and constant laughter. Helen never met a stranger, everyone easily became her friend.

She was so proud of her nieces and nephews and bragged about them with any chance she got. She loved cooking for and taking care of everyone in her building. She was the first to wish someone a happy birthday or anniversary, starting the day before. You never questioned her love. With Helen, you were always loved, belly full, and belly sore from all the laughter. Helen loved very deeply.

Donations may be made in Helen's memory to a charity of one's choice.
