Helen Lorene Sutton

Helen Lorene (Simmons) Sutton, 90, of Ellijay, passed away Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026, at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital.

She was born May 16, 1935, to the late John Henry Simmons and Winifred Nell Reece Simmons. A woman of faith and dedication, she was a longtime member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, Ellijay Chapter #340. She retired after many years of service from Panorama Orchards, Ingles and Piggly Wiggly. She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Johnny Simmons; sister, Mary Sue Davis; daughter Janice Stokes; and husband, Carl Sutton.

She is survived by her loving children, Cathy Meder and husband, Robert, of Kennesaw, Melissa Mullins, of Talking Rock and Alvin Sutton and wife, Pat, of Chatsworth. She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Major General David Sanford and wife, Rhonda, Ali Herring and husband Ryan, Brandice Whitechurch and husband Mark, Daniel Sutton and wife Jenily, Ashley Lackey and husband, Michael, Hope Bridges, and Jonathan Mullins and wife, Alaska. She is also survived by her beloved great-grandchildren: Alexander, Joshua and Justin Sanford, Lily, Luke and Olivia Herring, Jadon and Caleb Whitechurch, Makai and Mali Scalf, Mason Bridges and Aurora Mullins; and sister, Betty Jo Perry.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2026, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bryan Hensley, the Rev. Jamie Kerr and the Rev. Joey Patterson officiating. Makai Scalf, Dewayne Bridges, Mason Bridges, Jadon Whitechurch, Caleb Whitechurch, Curtis Davis, Luke Herring, Adam Teague and Jeremy Sellers served as pallbearers. Eastern Star graveside rites were conducted by the Order of the Eastern Star, Ellijay Chapter #340.

Interment followed in the Mount Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery.

Logan Funeral Home and Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
