Helen Louise Van Huss, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother (and great grandmother), and creative spirit passed away on December 9, 2024. She was 87 years old.
Helen embraced a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication to her family and friends. Helen's heart was always with her family, and she delighted in her multiple roles as wife, mother and grandmother. Her family was the light of her life, and she treasured every moment spent with them.
Helen loved to paint, sew, do embroidery and cross-stitch, expressing herself and creating beauty in simple yet meaningful ways. She also found joy in reading, doing puzzles, playing Scrabble, creating beauty with flowers and plants, and her dogs and cats. Her sanctuary in the summer was her covered back porch where she would sit, read, enjoy her flowers and watch the hummingbirds. Helen loved hummingbirds.
Helen was the fourth of four children born to Walter Jacob Gain and Margaret Estella Dean Gain. She was born January 26, 1937, in Kansas City, Missouri. When Helen was seven years old her family relocated to Denver, Colorado where her dad opened the Gain Hardware Store. Helen always spoke fondly about the hardware store and spending time there with her parents. She also treasured her family home in Denver.
Helen is survived by her loving husband, Ronald Van Huss; her children, Hank (Claudette) Estes, Lynda VanDenburgh, Leslie (Gerry) McFarling and Brittany (Mike) Bingel; her grandchildren Nicole Crowe, Sara Crowe, Benjamin VanDenburgh, Jacob (Brittany) VanDenburgh, Daniel (Hillary) Banks, Heather (Colin) Lillie, Holly (Alan) Gilbert, Connor Bingel,Caitlyn Bingel, as well as multiple great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her brother Dean Gain.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to all who have offered support during this difficult time. Helen's legacy of love, laughter and joy for life will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
In lieu of flowers, we invite you to honor Helen's memory in ways that feel meaningful to you-whether by sharing a special memory, spending time with loved ones, or simply doing something kind for someone else. Or, if you like, you may donate to the charity listed below in memory of her.
