Hema Sucy Singh

Hema Sucy Singh, known to loved ones as Elizabeth, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026,

at her home in Lubbock, Texas, surrounded by family. She was 81. After a lifelong journey that

took her from Kerala, India, through Qatar, and finally to Texas-where she built a home for 37

years-she left us having lived a life of uncommon purpose and grace.

With degrees in botany, education, and cardiovascular technology, Hema refused to be confined

by a single calling. Over five decades, she moved fluidly between worlds: science teacher and

principal, college educator and cardiovascular technologist at Covenant Medical Center's Cath

Lab, and ultimately research associate at Texas Tech University, where she contributed to

neuroscience and botanical research for space agencies. Yet these titles only hint at her true

work-the quiet, intentional presence she brought to every room. Hundreds of students and

colleagues knew her not primarily for her expertise, but for her warmth, her genuine

compassion, and her unwavering conviction that life should be lived with integrity and purpose.

She wove people together in friendship organically, and deeply touched lives in many

continents. She continued several of her classroom connections for decades afterward, and in

many countries.

She was a devoted wife to BR Singh, a dedicated mother to Hitesh and Sarah, and a steadfast

member of Quaker Avenue Baptist Church for 28 years, where she served faithfully under the

pastoral care of Monty Hilliard. She had a keen interest in all things plants and was known as a

woman who planted seeds-literally in her beloved gardens, and spiritually in the hearts of all

she encountered. She was central to the mission work in northern India for the last 35 years,

spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years BR Singh; her children Hitesh Singh and Sarah

Chilcote (and her husband Sean); her grandchildren Caleb and Grace , and their mother Devon

Joy of Waco; her sister Sugi and brother-in-law Kris of Dallas; and niece Meghan and nephew

Mathew.

Hema will be remembered as a woman who honored Christ in everything she did, leaving

behind not just accomplishments, but a legacy of intentional love.

The memorial service will be held at Quaker Avenue Baptist Church on Saturday March 7, 2026

at 1 pm.
