Henderika "Henny" Zondervan (née Niewijk)

A Life of Faith and Love
Henderika "Henny" Zondervan was born in Utrecht, the Netherlands, on October 2, 1936, to Johannes and Antonia Niewijk (née Thomassen). She was lovingly named after her grandmother, Henderika Vander Veen-Niewijk.
In June of 1956, the Lord led the Niewyk family to immigrate to the United States, settling in South Wyoming and later in Grandville, Michigan, where they attended Hope Christian Reformed Church. Henny was one of five children. She is survived by her siblings Tony (Marilyn) Niewijk, Anne (Butch) Penning, Frank Schermers, and brother-in-law John Zondervan.
Soon after arriving, Henny met the love of her life, Ted Zondervan, and on September 19, 1958, they were united in marriage at Hope C.R.C., with Rev. Dr. Goris officiating. After their marriage, Ted and Henny began their life together in Grand Rapids before building their first home in Jenison, Michigan. God blessed them with four children: Norman Jay (Karen), Patricia May, Douglas Scott (Laura), and Mark David (Tricia). Throughout their years, they lived in Jenison, the Lamplight area, and Forest Grove community, faithfully serving the Lord in each church community they joined.
Henny is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband, Ted Zondervan; her children and her cherished seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johannes and Antonia Niewyk, her parents-in-law, Albert and Alice Zondervan, siblings, Albert (Marge) Niewyk, Willie Schermers, Nancy Zondervan, beloved children, Patricia M. (2020) and Douglas S. (2022), whom she has now joyfully joined in the presence of her Lord.
Henny's life was a beautiful testimony to her faith in Jesus Christ. She loved worship, hymns, and the fellowship of God's people. Her gentle spirit, servant's heart, and steadfast trust in her Savior were an inspiration to all who knew her.
