WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Henrietta (Slaughter) Gibson, age 70, of Waterbury, shares the news of her unexpected passing on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of Nathan Gibson.
Henrietta was born in Auburn, Alabama on February 4, 1955, the daughter of the late Henry Slaughter and Rosetta Collins. At the young age of 2, she moved to Waterbury, Connecticut, where she would create a lifetime of cherished memories. She graduated from Kennedy High School and spent her life devoted to caring for others. Her greatest joy was found in her roles as wife, mother, and grandmother. She was married to her devoted husband, Nathan Gibson, for 53 wonderful years, a partnership characterized by love, laughter, and unwavering support. A woman of many passions, Henrietta loved long car rides, dancing, taking care of her house plants, people watching, and, most notably, taking care of her family and neighbors with a nurturing spirit that touched the hearts of all who knew her. She was always well-dressed, never leaving the house without her makeup perfected and her outfit just right. A talented cook, Henrietta will be remembered for her famous macaroni and cheese, baked ziti, and sweet potato pie, dishes that brought her family together around the dining table. Her big heart, social personality, and wisdom made her a beloved figure in her community. She cherished every moment spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. May her memory be a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Besides her loving husband, Nathan of 53 years, left to cherish and honor her memory are her children; Rickie Gibson and his wife Karri of Waterbury, Darrel Gibson and his wife Marilynn of Southington, Stephanie Gibson and Aliyah Gibson; both of Waterbury, her grandchildren; Dimitri Gibson, Anthony Ocasio, Mariah Gibson, Aiyanna Gibson and Alani Gibson, her great-grandchildren; Cameron, Gionni, Julyan and Lyla. She also leaves her siblings; Carolyn Sherman and Terry Collins both of Waterbury and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gibson will be held on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Baptist Church, 137 Pearl Street, Waterbury, CT 06704. Burial will follow at New Pine Grove Cemetery.
