Ms. Henrietta Elizabeth was born to the late Theodore & Ada Jenkins on August 18, 1948. On March 29, 2023, Henrietta peacefully transitioned.
Growing up, Henrietta enjoyed learning in the Newport News school district and graduated from George Washington Carver High School in 1966. She later graduated with an Associates Degree in Business from Peninsula Business College, Newport News, class of 1968. Shortly after graduating she was employedby Chase Manhattan Bank in New York. When she returned to Newport News she joined C & P Phone Company.
Henrietta met and fell in love with Willie Henry Thompson in 1965 when they were introduced to each other by her sister Pearl. They married in 1968 when Willie returned from Vietnam and successfully raised two children Michelle and Darnell.
Henrietta relocated to Atlanta GA in 1985 for career growth and lived there until 1994. She returned to Hampton, VA and continued her career path.
Henrietta had a real passion for cooking and delighted her family with homemade rolls, her famous potato salad, chicken and dumplings, along with fried fish, liver and onions and fried potatoes to name a few. She enjoyed listening to music, playing scrabble and card games with family and friends.
During her youth she attended First Baptist Morrison with her family where she enjoyed 12 years of vacation bible school. In later years she went to Tabernacle Baptist Church, Trinity Baptist Church and Little Zion Baptist Church.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her husband Willie Henry Thompson, grandson Baby D. Thompson, brothers Clarence, Douglas, Sam, Jack and Roland Jenkins, sisters Madeline Williams and Connie Bailey.
She leaves to cherish her lovingmemory two children Michelle Poole (James Jackson), Willie Darnell Thompson (Bertha Denise). Seven grandchildren Alesha Thompson (Rachad Riley), Michael Thompson, Natasha Pooh Thompson, Marshea Thompson, Victor Thompson, Tyler Thompson and Nicholas Thompson. Five great grandchildren Rachad Riley Jr., Aaron Fox Jr., Tamichael Fedd Jr., RomeloRiley and Autumn Riley. Two siblings Pearl Smith and William G. Jenkins. Two brother in laws John Thompson (Earnestine) and James Thompson. Two sister in laws Annie Wiggins and Vertis Askew. And a host of adoring nieces, nephews and cousins.
Henrietta was affectionately known as and answered to "Ma", "Mama", "Granny", "Grandma Penny", ""Gemmie' "Pecky" and "Peggy" to name a few. Some of her favorite sayings were "I have dined sufficiently", "What if God is not happy with your praise", "I know you're gonna let me do this".

Mrs. Henrietta you will be missed dearly but never forgotten. I'll miss you so much. So happy i was able to speak with you and reconnect you and my grandmother edna before you passed. My heart is so heavy. But i always love you!!
