Henry Lee Asbury passed away peacefully on February 24, 2026. He was born in Woodville, Greene County, Georgia on January 12, 1931 and was the son of William B. Asbury and Mabel Moody Asbury. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and devotion that will continue to live on through all who knew him. A devoted husband for 71 wonderful years, Henry cherished his wife and built a life rooted in unwavering love, commitment, and partnership.
Henry loved the Lord deeply, and his faith guided the way he lived each day – with kindness, humility, and compassion for others. He was a man who believed in serving both God and his community, and he remained actively involved throughout his life, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer encouragement to a neighbor or friend.
Henry was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving honorably in the United States Navy on the USS O'Bannon. Following his military service, he built an extraordinary banking career that spanned forty years. He served as Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of
Union Point, GA; Macintosh State Bank of
Jackson, GA; The Citizens National Bank of
Montezuma, GA; and the First National Bank of
Jefferson, GA. His leadership, integrity, and dedication left a lasting impact on the communities and institutions he served.
In addition to his banking career, Henry owned Asbury Insurance in
Union Point, GA. He was deeply committed to civic leadership and community service, serving as Past President of the Union Point Lions Club, Jackson Kiwanis Club, Butts County Chamber of Commerce, Jefferson Lions Club, and Commerce Lions Club. He served as Chairman of the Butts County "Stay and See Georgia" Committee, which won the state championship, and helped organize the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, where he served several terms on the Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Jefferson Rotary Club.
Henry was a Shriner and Master Mason and remained active in professional organizations, serving as President of the Middle Georgia Chapter of the Bank Administration Institute and the Northeast Georgia Chapter of the Bank Administration Institute.
He and his wife were longtime members of Galilee Christian Church, and he previously served as a Deacon at both Woodville Baptist Church and Galilee Christian Church, faithfully supporting his church.
Family meant everything to Henry. He was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend whose greatest joy came from time spent surrounded by those he loved. His wisdom, gentle spirit, and steady presence were a source of strength and comfort to his family.
A proud fan of his beloved DAWGS, Henry rarely missed an opportunity to cheer them on, sharing in the excitement and camaraderie that came with every game day. Whether celebrating victories or simply enjoying the tradition, his enthusiasm brought people together.
Henry is survived by his wife Ann Vaughn Asbury, one daughter Kathy Asbury Holloway (Mike) of
Jefferson, GA, two sons William H. "Bill" Asbury (Lori) of Knoxville, TN, and Tracy W. Asbury (Amy) of Grayson, GA; three grandsons Michael Powell (Jennifer) of Suwanee, GA, Chris Holloway (Holly) of Maysville, GA, and Jayden Asbury of Grayson, GA, two granddaughters Jenna Asbury of Grayson, GA, and Morgan Pritchett (Caleb) of Cornelia, GA; six great grandsons Ethan Banan, Zach Hall, Camden Powell, Cannon Holloway, Carson Holloway, and Memphis Pritchett, and a great granddaughter Ava Hall; and many nieces and nephews.
