Henry Walker Davis Sr. was born on March 2nd 1931 In
Rains, South Carolina. To the late George Davis & Matilda Legette. He grew up and went through the Rains school system. Growing up he was a member of the Bethel AME church where he was first baptized and met his wife Annabelle. After they got married they moved from South Carolina to
Sharon Hill, PA in 1947 and immediately joined the First African Baptist Church (Rev. Watkins). After spending some time in Chester (The Fairgrounds) they finally settled in South Media joined 2nd Baptist Church (Rev. Lee) & where they grew their family and grew a church family. As a member of 2nd Baptist Church he was an Usher and a member of the Men's choir. Both Henry and Annabelle were involved in church and were sure to make sure God was the foundation in their home.
When Henry and Annabelle arrived in Sharon Hill, he immediately got a job as a short order cook and soon after worked at Miles Construction as a laborer for some years. In order to provide for his now family of four he took up a part time job at the Media clinic for 25 years while simultaneously working at Springfield Suburban Water Company (now known as Aqua) where he retired after working for over 38 years.
Henry was a huge Philadelphia sports fan and he enjoyed attending many of the games.Richie Allen was his favorite Philadelphia Phillies player to watch. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling and spending time in his backyard. He would often get up early, cut the grass, play his numbers and was known to get two newspapers. All done before most people woke up giving him time to rest in his recliner until it was time for one of Annabelles dinners to which he would often contribute his famous iced tea or lemonade. He was often hosting cookouts and frying fish on Fridays as a way to be sure to spend time with family near and far. During his retirement, he was often kept busy by his grandchildren. You could always find him in the stands at the basketball games, track & swim meets cheering them on. More recently even at the bowling alley cheering on his great-grandson.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents, loving wife, Annebelle, daughter Patricia Ann Davis and Alvin Kendell Davis. His brothers, Richard, Willie Joe, Willie George & John Kelly Davis. His sisters, Julia Legette, Ethel Davis, Ida Mae Brown & Emma Lee Graham.
As a loving family man, he leaves behind his children Margaret Polite, Henry Davis Jr.. His grandchildren, Terasha Franklin, Jason Ross-Davis, Harold Akrie and Alexandria Lawson (Cameroon). Two great grandchildren, Trevor Kendall Franklin and Kendall Annabelle Lawson. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews ,cousins; including his great niece Alexis Legette who helped care for him often during his physical therapy rehabilitation.
