Henry Feinberg Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Epstein Memorial Chapel - Columbus on Apr. 15, 2024.
Henry Feinberg, age 81, passed away on April 14, 2024. Preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Anna Feinberg and sister, Nina Glazer. Survived by his wife, Gloria Feinberg; sons, Eric (Marcy) Feinberg, Jeffrey (Tracy) Feinberg and David (Maureen Keller) Feinberg; grandchildren, Kevin (Hannah), Greg (Kenzie), Rachael and Joey Feinberg; niece, Debbie Klie; nephews, David Docktor and Larry Glazer.
Born on March 15, 1943, in Philadelphia, PA, Henry, known affectionately as Hank, lived a life rich in love, laughter, and adventure. Going fishing with his father was one of Hank's cherished memories. Fishing became a passion that spanned his entire life, and Hank enjoyed sharing this passion with his children and grandchildren.
As a child, Hank cherished playing sports, such as half ball, stickball and box ball with his friends Mark, Jerome, Donny and Alan. He was an avid sports fan who had fond memories of attending Phillies games, including his witnessing of a no-hitter thrown against the Phillies by Sandy Koufax. His love for music blossomed early, and he became skilled at playing the saxophone, with his favorite song to play being "Harlem Nocturne". Hank also had a beautiful singing voice and formed a band with his friends whose one and only performance became a memorable tale of each band member starting the performance by singing a different song.
After graduating from Central High School in Philadelphia, Hank embarked on a successful career in the clothing industry. His first major job was as a salesman at Adams Clothes. He swiftly climbed the ranks, eventually becoming an assistant buyer. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Gloria, through a serendipitous connection orchestrated by his mother, Anna. Their union on March 15, 1964 (Hank's 21st and favorite birthday of his life), marked the beginning of a beautiful marriage that spanned over 60 years.
The arrival of their sons, Eric, Jeff and David brought immeasurable joy to Hank and Gloria's lives. Relocating to Cleveland, Ohio, and later settling in Columbus, they established a loving home where countless cherished memories were made. In Columbus, they were active members of Temple Israel, where they saw all three of their children be honored as Bar Mitzvahs.
In 1976, Hank embarked on an entrepreneurial endeavor, founding the Jean Scene, a successful clothing store with multiple locations across Ohio. The business was a family affair with Hank, Gloria, Eric, Jeff, David, and Hank's niece Debbie and nephews David and Larry all working there. His dedication and passion for his work were recognized when the store was honored as the Levi Jean Retailer of the Year in 1980s. Later in his career, Hank found fulfillment working with Harley Authorized Products, fostering relationships with dealers across the Midwest.
Beyond his professional pursuits, Hank's true happiness stemmed from his family. He was a devoted father who never missed an opportunity to coach his sons' baseball games, shoot hoops, have a catch, or share his love of fishing. He loved spending time with his loved ones, whether it was watching sports, playing games of Scrabble, or enjoying the great outdoors. Hank loved to jog and walk through the trails at Blacklick Woods, his yard was always well manicured and, later in life, Hank found a love of gardening, which led to an expanded backyard landscape highlighted by a wide variety of dahlias.
Hank's zest for life was contagious, and his enthusiasm knew no bounds. From his eclectic interests in music to his analytical mind for games and sports, he approached each endeavor with passion and optimism. His mind allowed him to best his friends and casinos on many occasions, including winning the last two bets he placed on the 2024 Masters. His adventurous spirit led him to appear on television multiple times with Dick Clark on "American Bandstand" in Philadelphia and the "$10,000 Pyramid", leaving behind cherished memories of his experiences and a year supply of Tootsie Pops. He also prided himself as a world-class driver with over 2 million miles driven in his lifetime without a major accident.
Traveling with Gloria also brought Hank immense joy, whether it was exploring new destinations or embarking on road trips filled with laughter and memories. Family and friends remained at the heart of everything he did, and he cherished every moment spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and granddogs. Henry Feinberg will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering positivity will continue to inspire those whose lives he touched.
Graveside services will be held at 2:30 PM on April 16, 2024 at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens - Temple Israel section. Shiva will be observed immediately following the service at Temple Israel. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Henry's memory may be made to ALS United Ohio at www.alsohio.org
