Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Henry Arthur Fredricks Jr., born April 3, 1938, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025 at 86 years of age.
A native of Laurel Co., Kentucky, of humble beginnings, he settled in Hardin Co. Kentucky where he took a job as a teacher, and bought a house in Sonora, KY. Subsequently venturing out west several times, he married, and returned to his Kentucky home, where his 3 sons were born. After venturing back out west for 8 years, he recognized the perils of the Southern California perspectives on life, and brought his family back to Hardin County where they were raised and attended college in hopes that the values of his upbringing would be passed on. He succeeded.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Arthur Fredricks Sr., his mother Beatrice Dees Fredricks, and sister Gloria Greer.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Lee Fredricks of 57 years of marriage, sisters Doris Bridges, Roberta Carhart, and Lydia Skaggs, daughters Jessica Waldrop and Elizabeth Goss by previous marriage, sons Thomas Henry Fredricks, John David (Christy) Fredricks, and Robert Lee (Rhonda) Fredricks, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He lived a full life dedicated to family, the raising of his 3 boys and was actively involved with his grandchildren and the family business. His best years were spent after retirement, where he became the first and most successful retailer of used Japanese compact tractors imported and distributed by his oldest son in Alabama. He and Barbara eventually migrated to Alabama, leaving his second son, David to carry on his established homestead and tractor sales in Hardin Co. Joining his first and third sons, Tom and Rob, he became the honorary patriarch of Fredricks Equipment. He spent his remaining days imparting wisdom, experience, and semi-constructive criticism to their employees, many of whom looked up to him as a father figure themselves.
Visitation will be Friday, January 31, from 6-8 pm at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle, AL, with funeral services Saturday, February 1, at noon at Walnut Grove Baptist Church on Bethel Rd. in Priceville, AL. Doors open at 11 am.
