Henry W. "Hank" Gory

Henry "Hank" Gory, affectionately known to many as "Mr. Tax," passed away surrounded by the love he so freely gave. A proud son of Chicago, Hank built more than a career, he built a legacy, brick by brick, return by return, and hug by unforgettable hug.
For over 40 years, Hank served the Chicagoland community with unmatched dedication, sharp wit, and the kind of booming voice that could command a room - or a whole block - without a microphone. Whether you came to him for help with your taxes, advice, or a bear hug that fixed things more effectively than most therapy, Hank showed up. Fully. Faithfully. Fiercely.
Hank is survived by his loving wife (or spousal unit as he humorously called her) Deb, four children: Kate (Nick), Ryan (Margaret), Elizabeth, and Julia. He was the proud and ever-entertaining grandfather to Mason, Nolan, Maxwell, Amelia Taylor, and Ginny Gory Rathert - who all knew his boundless love and endless stories. He also leaves behind his brothers and their families, Thomas (Rudell) Gory, Michael (Sandy) Gory and James (Theresa) Gory.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Sr. and Mary Gory, his baby brother John, and a host of beloved aunts and uncles. We're pretty sure he's catching them up on everything they've missed - at full volume.
Hank's love ran deep and loud. He loved his family with his whole chest, laughing big, hugging tighter, and telling stories that were legendary. Hank was very proud of his family and any tax client knew they were going to get a full update when they sat down for their return. Whether he was bragging about what the kids were up to, sharing stories from his time as an IRS agent or reminiscing about graduating at 16 and "going west" - his stories were boundless.
If you knew Hank, you knew this: he didn't just leave behind memories. He left a mark.
