Henry T. Herrnstein

Henry T. Herrnstein, 75, of Clarksburg, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 28, 2022 at the family farm he loved. He was born May 16, 1947 to Henry R. and Wilhelmine Cartmille Herrnstein. They preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Fay. Together they shared 33 years of happiness. Henry is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law Philip and Dorothea Herrnstein of Clarksburg, his nephew Carl (Abby) Herrnstein, great nieces Isabella and Carlee, and great nephew Samuel, brother-in-law Ned (Joan) Pendleton and nephew Ross, several cousins and many dear life-long friends.
Henry was a local farmer and a fan of Oliver tractors. He was a member of the Clarksburg Grange and the Doughty Valley Steam Threshers Associations. He served as president of the last graduating class of Clarksburg High School in 1965, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio University.
Henry had a keen interest in the American Civil War. He was president of the Joshua W. Sill Chapter of the Civil War Roundtable, a member of the Enderlin Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans, and the Mudsills.
He was currently serving as president of the Ross County Historical Society. Henry served on the Deerfield Township Zoning Commission and served two terms on the Adena Board of Education. He was a member of Brown's Chapel UMC.
He was a kind and gentle man. He loved the Lord, his family, his friends, his church, his school, his community and his country.
A service celebrating Henry's life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2022 in Brown's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Vera Welker officiating. Burial will follow in Brown's Chapel Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. There will be a time of fellowship at the church following the committal service.
