Henry Janicki

Henry Janicki, 85, of Crete, IL., passed away at Silver Cross Hospital on February 3, 2025, with his family at his side.
Born on December 21, 1939, Henry was a devout husband, a loving father, attentive grandfather, and loyal friend. He lived a beautiful life with his wife, Diane, an inspirational father of Melissa (James) LeBran and Jeff (Betsy) Janicki. He embraced his role as being affectionately known as "grumpy" to his grandchildren, Nick (Holly), AJ, Megan (Adam), Andrew, Matt and Jimmy, and great grandchildren, Levi, Ruby, and Louie. Loving son of the late Phyllis nee Chroszi and Leo Janicki. Fond brother of Phyllis (late Thomas) Kopin, late Leon (Evelyn) Janicki, late Stanley (Angela) Janicki and Edwina (late George) Gaskin.
Henry worked hard throughout his life, entering the Navy at just 17 years old, multiple jobs that lead to his Teamsters truck driving job for Steinbach meats, from which he retired in 2001.
He loved taking road trips with Diane, his beautiful bride of over 56 years. They would travel as far as Victoria Island and to the Dakotas, thoroughly enjoying every moment. Henry and Diane shared a love and passion for animals. They showed cats and established Nan Chao Akitas and joined Great Lakes Akita Club which included breeding, showing and obedience training for CD titles. Henry further expanded his passion for animals, to help others as a trainer at the Humane Society, Crete Park District and Park Forest classes for many years.
Henry's passion for old cars and his racing stories were one of a kind and always kept people in awe with his unbelievable but validated stories it seems, he never lost a race. Henry enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing tournaments and playing slots in the local area with his family and friends. As well as, enjoying the honor of "Team Dad" at his children's school sporting events.
In Henry's free time he could be found lending a helping hand and utilizing his "jack of all trades" skills to help others with whatever repairs they needed. Dad had quite a big heart and was a giver to others which he instilled in his children and grandchildren. Memorial Services will be held at a later date. Info 708-481-9230 or panozzo@panozzobros.com.
