MR. HENRY ALBERT "CHAPPY" JOSEPH, age 73, of 407 White Oak Street, Thomson, GA passed away on Thursday, November 13th, 2025, at his residence. Family members and friends may call at the funeral home. THOMSON FUNERAL SYSTEM, Thomson, GA oversees all arrangements.
MR. HENRY ALBERT JOSEPH, affectionately known as "Chappy," lived a spirit-filled, purpose-driven life rooted in his deep love for God. From a young age in Trinidad and Tobago, he devoted himself to reading the Word of God and carried that devotion throughout his life.
Born on September 23, 1952, to Austerlitz Joseph and Fandelle Maude Brown, Chappy was a man of dreams, discipline, and creativity. He aspired to travel the world, join the U.S. military, and share his gift of poetry with others. God honored his dreams-Chappy became an award-winning published poet, earning a Golden Poetry Award for his contribution to The Golden Treasury of Great Poems (1989). Though he did not serve in the military himself, he was immensely proud that his future children would walk that path for him.
After moving to the United States, Chappy met the love of his life, Evelyn Thomas, in Atlanta, Georgia. They married in September 1986 and built a loving home together, raising Evelyn's three daughters-Faith Roy (David Roy), an Army Veteran; Fredrika Lang (Matt Lang); and Chastidy Morris. The girls lovingly called him "Daddy Chappy," and he embraced his role as a proud husband and father. He taught them how to fix cars, how to drive, and supported them through every school and college milestone. Chappy and Evelyn shared 10 years of marriage and, through God's grace, maintained a remarkable 40+ year friendship that included her current husband, Gerald "Jerry the Merry" Thomas. Their bond was one only God could have created.
In 2003, Chappy met Elise Gibson Rhodes, and in 2004 they welcomed his youngest daughter, Kimberly Joseph-a daughter who mirrored his spirit and talents. Chappy was deeply proud of Kimberly's mechanical skills and her service in the Marine Corps as an airplane mechanic. He took joy in teaching her plumbing and trade skills, and shortly before his passing, he said proudly, "My girls are doing what I always wanted to do."
Chappy was a dedicated and skilled certified welder and plumber, working for 30 years at Gene's Plumbing in College Park, Georgia. He was known for his generosity, often helping people who could not afford standard company fees. Outside of work, he treasured dancing, singing his Caribbean music, cooking, playing the harmonica and piano, and above all-reading the Bible.
On Thursday, November 13, 2025, Chappy peacefully transitioned from this life, surrounded by his best friends-Evelyn and "Jerry the Merry"-just as he lived: loved, supported, and held in God's hands.
He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his Heavenly victory: his devoted ex-wife and lifelong friend Evelyn (Gerald); his four daughters; grandchildren, his sister Anna Stewart; his brothers Thony Joseph and Jackie Joseph; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Pearl Wint, and his brother Eddy Joseph. Chappy's life was one of faith, service, love, and legacy. He will be remembered for his wisdom, his humor, his generous heart, and his unwavering devotion to God.
