Henry Marian Klimkiewicz

Henry Marian Klimkiewicz, 95, of Level Green, succumbed to old age on Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in the comfort of his daughter's home. He was born February 2, 1925 in Radzymin, near Warsaw, Poland, a son of late Joseph and Josephine (Potega) Klimkiewicz. Henry was only 14 years old when Poland was invaded and subsequently occupied by Germany. During these times, he would regularly ride the trolley to get to school, where he was studying printing. On several occasions, he would pretend to fall asleep in order to miss his stop, only to depart the trolley in the Jewish ghetto. He would then secretly toss his packed lunch over the the ghetto wall to feed the residents there. Henry joined the newly formed secret organization, AK; the Home Army, as a teen. For this involvement, he was arrested by the Gestapo and interrogated in the main headquarters in Warsaw. Only by the grace of God was he released, narrowly avoiding death by the firing squad in the street. On the 1st of August, 1944, he took part fighting in the Warsaw Uprising. After the eventual fall and capitulation, he and other young men were taken to Germany to a prisoner-of-war camp near Altengrabow. Following the war, Henry raised his family in Poland, and ultimately moved to the United States in 1982. Surviving are his children, Andrzej (Elzbieta), Zbigniew (Beata) and Elizabeth (Don); grandchildren, Robert, Rafal, Marcin, Lukasz, Jessica, Stephanie, Vanessa, and Donnie; and great-grandchildren, Sandra, Orson, and Mabel. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; parents, Joseph and Josephine; and sisters, Maria and Zofia. "Dziadzius' will be remembered by his great work ethic and immense love of his family, especially his grandkids. Henry was a dreamer who had grand plans for life, some of which materialized and some did not. He was a very hard working individual who worked into his 80s and kept physically fit. He used to cut grass and do yard work and gardening until age 95. He was a man of great faith. Henry's visitation, funeral mass, and burial will be private for his family.
