Henry Joseph Kussay, Sr., 89, of Jenkintown, PA passed away Thursday, July 28, 2022 surrounded by his loving wife and children. Henry was born in Philadelphia, PA on May 14, 1933, son of the late Helen (Slawecka) and Walter Kussay, Sr. Brother to the late Vicky Slachta and Mamie Paulewicz. Henry graduated high school from Mastbaum, completing trade school, followed up by an apprenticeship with R .M. Shoemaker. He later completed a few college business management courses at Penn State University. He served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Army National Guard.
He married his sweetheart, and literally, the girl next door, Clare, on May 25, 1957. He was a carpenter at R.M. Shoemaker for 41 years, and a lifetime member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America for over 50 years. He loved his job and never missed a day of work. Henry was dedicated and hardworking. On his days off he enjoyed working in his garden, taking care of his lawn and fishing. He could spend all day puttering around the yard and out in the driveway changing the oil on his cars. He was adventurous and loved to take long car rides, taking his wife and 5 kids on many road trips up and down the coast. Henry had impeccable woodworking skills. We are all so grateful for the beautiful cradle in which each of his 12 grandchildren spent many hours of their newborn lives. He always had an ear to ear smile on his face while spending time with his 12 grandchildren. Henry was always willing to lend a hand, helping each of us with home repairs, sometimes from noon until the wee hours of the morning.
Henry is survived by his beloved wife Clare, his loving children Kathy (Tim) Cassidy, Henry J. Jr. (Gail), Geralynne (Ron) Steffenino, Theresa (Frank) Brown and Ken (Megan). He is also survived by his devoted grandchildren Brian, Kenny, Jenn, Brett, Tim, Emily, Nicholas, Jonathan, Sarah, Jason, Grace and Gavin.
He will truly be missed, making his mark on our world. If we had a single blade of grass for every time we will think of him, we could walk forever in our field.
Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing 9-10:15 AM, followed by his funeral mass at 10:30 AM, both on Friday, August 5, 2022 at St. Hilary of Poitiers Church 820 Susquehanna Rd. in Rydal, PA. His interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
