Henry Miller

1966 - 2025

Henry Miller was a kind, thoughtful, brilliant, humorous and generous person; an encouraging friend, and a devoted father.

A native of New York, Henry was born June 19, 1966. He earned a communications degree in 1988 from Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio. He began his journalism career as a sports writer for the Steubenville Herald Star covering high school and local sports, and the Pittsburgh Pirates 1989 Spring Training and Weirton Daily Times covering Pittsburgh's Steelers, Pirates and Penguins.

In 1992, he relocated to Florence, South Carolina where he covered NASCAR and the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta as sports editor for Morning News and Thomson Newspapers. Simultaneously, he became a syndicated writer and radio analyst covering NASCAR, IndyCar, Open Wheel and Formula 1 - publishing in more than 200 newspapers and 70 radio markets in the U.S. and Canada.

Henry joined The Monitor in 2001, helping lead the newsroom as managing editor. In 2007 he earned an MBA in finance from the University of Texas-Pan American (now UTRGV), and branched out on his own.

Henry branched out on his own as a self-employed publisher in the early 2010s, before returning to The Monitor in 2019. His products included South Texas Golf Magazine and Texas Sportsman Tracking Outdoors Magazine.

Henry heralded local student athletes, coaches and teams as the sports editor for AIM Media Texas (The Monitor, Valley Morning Star, Brownsville Herald) and RGVSports.com.

Henry was proud to feature a variety of high school sporting events from across the Rio Grande Valley including varsity volleyball, cross country, and track and field; even working to include powerlifting and wrestling into the All-Valley Sports Awards, an annual banquet honoring performance and competitiveness of student-athletes.

Since his passing Thursday, April 10, 2025, Henry is being remembered for his laughter, his wit - which included cheesy dad jokes - his brilliance and intellect, his passion for promoting others and most especially as a truly loving father to his daughter Camilla.

Visitation will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2025 at Christian Fellowship Church, 2201 Trenton Road in McAllen, Texas followed by the memorial service at 5 p.m.
