Henry Monroe Mitchell

 

Henry Monroe Mitchell was born on January 27, 1945 in Picayune, Mississippi. He passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 25, 2023 at the age of 78. He was a resident of St. Bernard Parish most of his life but was currently residing in Mandeville, Louisiana with his daughter and her family for the last 12 years. He was a graduate of St. Bernard High School. After a long, hard fought battle with lung disease, he was called home and reunited with his loving wife of 52 years, the late Barbara Rome Mitchell.

Beloved Father of Lisa Natal (Chris), Ethel Melson (Stephen) and Tina Barney (David). Cherished Grandfather of Damien, Ashley, Cory, Madison, Samantha, Alex, Blake and great grandfather of Carson. He also leaves behind his brother Leo Mitchell and sister Charlotte Mitchell. Henry is preceded in death by his parents Challis Mitchell and Ethel Stockstill Mitchell, his foster parents Mr. & Mrs. Eugene White as well as his brothers James, Perry, & Shelby Mitchell and sister Elaine Mitchell. 

Henry was a Civilian Merchant Marine who was forced to retire early in life due to an accident but that never stopped him from talking about his trips around the world. He loved spending time with his family as well as watching his grandkids play sports. He loved doing his jigsaw puzzles, word search books, playing cards and watching all sports. He especially loved pulling for his Ole Miss Rebels when they were playing against his family’s beloved LSU Tigers.
