HENRY MITCHELL Obituary

MITCHELL--Henry C., of Mount Vernon and formerly of The Bronx, on October 11, 2025. Beloved husband of the late Margaret. Loving father of the late James, of Michael (Pamela), and of the late John. Devoted grandfather of Michael, Kristen, and Emily, and great-grandfather of Liam. Dear brother to five siblings, who predeceased him. Cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. An Army veteran of World War II, Henry served in the European Theater and became Staff Sergeant in the decorated 3rd Infantry Division. In charge of all communications for a company of 160 men, he was awarded the highly prestigious Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Bronze Star Medal for heroic achievement, and two Battle Stars. After returning to The Bronx, he was a New York City bus driver for 25 years, then worked maintaining Fordham Hill apartments. Henry was universally regarded as a kind, caring, and loving man, who adored his wife, treasured his family, and cherished his many close friends and relatives. A man of deep Catholic faith, Henry had a devout heart and a sharp mind. In addition to being an avid Yankees fan, Henry kept a close watch of current events and played a very active role in the lives of his loved ones. Calling hours at the Fred H.
