Henry Wayne Shurts, 85, of Idaho Falls, passed away December 1, 2025, at his home. He was under the care of Symbii Home Health and Hospice and his loving children.
Henry was born September 27, 1940, in Lebanon, Oregon, to William Henry Shurts and Myrtle Elma Fisher Shurts. He grew up and attended schools in Lebanon, Oregon. Henry also attended Brigham Young University where he joined the ROTC.
On December 26, 1969, he married Carolee Peterson in the Idaho Falls Temple. Henry served in the United States Air Force for 23 years with over 130 missions during Vietnam War. He was a navigator of B-52s and served three tours of duty based in Guam and Thailand. At the time of his retirement from the Air Force he was ranked a Major.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served as Bishop in Abilene, Texas, and Bellevue, Nebraska. Henry enjoyed painting, shooting, model planes and reading.
Henry is survived by his daughter, Christy (Tony) Pinho of Spring, TX; daughter, Mary Shurts of Portland, OR; daughter, Amy Shurts of Madison, WI; son, Jonathan (Brandy) Shurts of Idaho Falls, ID; son, Timothy Shurts of Idaho Falls, ID; sister, Sandra (Gary) Simon of Albany, OR; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolee Shurts; three brothers, Michael, Ricky, and Larry; and his son, Peter Shurts.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, December 5, 2025, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road with Bishop Mike Hansen officiating. The family will visit with friends from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery. Military Honors will be performed by the Bonneville County Veterans Memorial Team and Air Force Honor Guard.
