Rawn Arthur Wallgren, age 78, peacefully left this world behind on March 24, 2026, to join his soul mate Julie, his parents, and his brother Delvan. It was no doubt a joyous reunion.
Rawn was born on July 27, 1947, in Logan, Utah, to Rex and Marion Wallgren. He met his best friend and the love of his life, Julie Jensen, while both were attending Brigham Young University. They married on December 19, 1969, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they raised six wonderful children.
Rawn followed a family tradition of military service, joining the US Air Force in 1972 and serving proudly until 1985, earning the rank of Captain. He served in the Utah National Guard from 1989 to 1997. Following military retirement, Rawn continued his public service working for the State of Utah for 23 years as a budget and accounting officer.
Rawn had a strong testimony of Jesus Christ. He was both a student and a teacher of the gospel. Rawn served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Andes Mission, covering Peru and Ecuador. He grew to love the people of South and Central America and the Spanish language. He later taught Spanish to outgoing missionaries and took every opportunity he could to speak Spanish with native speakers he encountered throughout his life.
Rawn was a lifelong student of people and of the scriptures. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from BYU in May 1972, and a Master’s in LDS Church History and Doctrine in 1975 from the same institution. Throughout his life, he served in numerous church teaching and leadership positions and taught church institute classes for young adults in his area.
Fishing was one of Rawn’s favorite pastimes. A humble man, he wasn’t one to tell “big fish” stories; he just enjoyed the peace of a day on the lake with friends and family. He had a great appreciation for nature and took his family and many camping trips, where a highlight was singing around the campfire while Rawn played the guitar.
Musically gifted, Rawn shared his talents and love for song as a 15-year member of the Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square. He shared the love of music with his family, which includes several accomplished musicians. He often organized opportunities for them to sing together during church services and as a service to community members, especially the elderly.
Rawn is survived by his sons: Stephen (Ginger), Michael (Megan), and David Wallgren; daughters: Kristin (Robert) Haynes, Marie (Andrew) Buehner, and Jennifer (Adam) George; sisters, Terri Michaels and Maura Leavitt; 16 grandchildren, and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Julie, and brother Delvan Wallgren.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3315 West 5620 South, Taylorsville, Utah. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m., where family and friends are invited to gather and share their condolences. Interment will follow at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
