Henry Treffinger Obituary

Henry William Treffinger

August 9, 1942 - June 27, 2025

Henry W. Treffinger, III passed away peacefully at home on June 27, 2025, surrounded by his beloved family. He was 82.

Born on August 9, 1942, Henry was the son of the late Henry W. Treffinger, Jr. and Loretta C. Treffinger (née Kuzniarski), and was predeceased by his brother, David W. Treffinger.

Henry is survived by his devoted wife, Judith P. Treffinger (née Paternoster); his daughters Cynthia A. Hettchen (née Treffinger) and Robin L. Treffinger; Mary Morgan Kelleher and her husband Rodney; and Genna M. Kelleher. He was a proud grandfather to Paul R. Hettchen and his wife Caroline, Heather N. Hettchen, and Sebastian, Lorenzo, and Angelo Morrow; and a joyful great-grandfather to Emmett and Miles Hettchen.

He is also survived by his dear aunt Emily Kuzniarski; cousins Loretta Fitzgerald, Robert Kuzniarski, and Valerie Hevle; sister-in-law Emily Paternoster and her wife Monica; Jamie DeShong and her husband Dan; many nieces and nephews; and countless cherished friends.

Henry earned his degree in Architectural Design from the Baltimore Institute of Art (Maryland Institute College of Art) and built a fulfilling career in architectural design, commercial general construction, construction management, and property development.

A devout Catholic, Henry was deeply committed to his faith. He was instrumental in the opening of a devotional chapel and lovingly tended to it for many years, creating a sacred space for prayer, reflection, and peace.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Henry was a man of many passions. He loved spending time with his family, boating on the Chesapeake Bay, photography, skeet shooting, going on safari in Africa, and piloting and owning small aircraft. Known for his playful spirit, he was a natural trickster who found joy in making others smile and laugh.

He will be remembered for his warmth, wit, and unwavering love for those closest to him.

A celebration of Henry's life will be planned by the family. Donations may be made in Henry's name to:
